Production log, Tuesday 22nd November 2011

Today I have produced a Haiku video. A Haiku video is when you create a video which relates to the Haiku poem you have chosen.

A Haiku poem is a poem that is only three lines long, you can either make up your own Haiku poem or use someone else's you have found yourself on either the internet or in a book.

My video is someone drawing landscape pictures from there imagination. I chose to use someone else's Haiku poem that I had found on the internet because I felt that it went really well with the video and couldn't have worded it better myself.

I really like the Haiku video i have made because it shows someone drawing landscape pictures from their imagination and the Haiku poem i found on the internet goes really well with the video i took because it matches what the person in the video is drawing.

Production Log

Friday 30th Sep:

I filmed the project using my mobile phone. I had planned to use a college camera but there wasn't any available until the Friday - which was the day I was going. In future I plan to use college equipment as I have been unable to edit the footage on my phone

I filmed five different five second clips of life in Skegness for the people that live there and people that are regular holiday makers there. Each clip shows different aspects of life there and what there is to do for people that are there on holiday or on a short break.

1. Beach - wide shot of the beach. People were silhouetted because of the sun which was shining in shot

2. Train - whilst on the train I got a shot from the window. This shot is to establish the journey to Skegness

3. Arcade - I did a tilt-pan shot of the arcade. I tilted the camera from the arcade name down into the arcade. Again, this was designed to establish the arcade.

4. On the beach I searched for sea creatures. I did this as I wanted to show the differences between the seaside and the midlands.

I filmed a shot of a crab that was upside down on the sand. Water was running over it and the sun was shining over it.

I also shot a starfish - there was no particular reason why I did this, except that I thought it looked nice.

5. My final shot was of the sand - I wrote my name on the beach and placed a tray of fish and chips next to it.

The use of fish and chips in the shot is because it is a traditional English meal that you usually associate with going to the seaside.

The name in the sand was inspired by the fact that many people do it on their holiday photos. It was also something that they used to do on the TV programme 'Wish You Were Here'

The filming took all day - I had planned to do this as a number of things change during a day at the seaside:

Tide in/tide out
Sunshine/Night Lights
Busy/Quiet
Fair closed/fair open

5x5 video proposal

Synopsis:

I am going to create a film in the location of Skegness where I am going to record places around the town for 25 seconds. I am going to do five different shots and make each shot about something different that will help me to show what life is like for the people visiting Skegness and the people living there.

I will record places such as; the beach, arcades, shops, people walking along the beach, people in the sea, the sunset, the fare, wild life, animals etc...

The audience:

This video is aimed mainly at the older generation because it shows five different clips of life in Skegness, doesn't explain in specific details what the film is about, isn't made using bright colors, doesn't contain any sort of animations or refer to any sort of children's programme or film there for it wouldn't really interest anyone of a younger age than around thirteen.

I believe this video gives a good insight as to what Skegness is like as a town and what it's all about because it shows all aspects of life in Skegness such as the beach, arcades, different people e.g people living there and holiday makers, the journey there for people that visit, the food and creatures that live on the beach. The video clearly shows it is a very well known holiday town where holiday makers go each year, sometimes for a short break and sometimes for a 1-2 week summer holiday.

The big idea:

The idea of this video is that it will show people what a great place it is and the main goal is to make people want to visit the town and experience everything that is shown in the video and much more.

A lot of people would benefit from watching this video because they can see what a great place Skegness is to visit and show people that they can still have a great holiday even if they stay in England and can use it as a quick get away location any time of the year as most of the amusements and shops are open all year round.

Structure:

The way i have structured my film is by putting each of the five second clips in an order so that when the film is shown it is simple to understand and gives all the right information at the right time e.g, the first clip is inside the train which shows the journey to the destination.

The second clip is of scenery on the way to the beach such as the gardens where people can stop for a picnic or take a great picture of all the family, a wide range of hotels to be chosen from and shops that are open all year round especially for holiday makers.

The third clip is of people enjoying themselves, swimming in the sea, walking along the beach with their families or simply just relaxing.

Resolution:

The end of the film, which will be my final five second clip, is of the remains of a traditional great british meal at the seaside, fish and chips, and somebody's name written in the sand. I chose to do this as my final clip because i think that it shows part of a typical holiday in Skegness which is eating fish and chips on the beach, children and families playing in the sand etc, this shows that people have been and enjoyed their break.
